8/20/2013: It is a very sad day at Vom Gildaf. I had to make a very hard decision this morning and the tears have not stopped. Little baby Vespa (Buzz x Nikita) crossed the Rainbow Bridge just a few hours ago. She has struggled the last week or so and the cause was undetermined. Upon weaning from Nikita, she just did not thrive. She had days where we thought she was on the upswing but then she'd decline again. I had her in to the vet last week. We tried some things and she perked up for a couple of days. Just to crash again. She would not eat at all. I ended up putting her on Mako yesterday to get some milk in her belly b/c Nikita is drying up at this point. Yesterday, she was not doing well so I got her in first thing this morning. More tests run and sadly, there was no hope. My vet believes it was either some odd bone infection or bone cancer. Not fully sure without doing a marrow biopsy but none of us wanted to put her through that. She was already weak, EXTREMELY anemic and fading and either way, it was the same outcome. I stayed with her and she went to sleep in my arms. There is nothing more painful than holding an innocent little puppy and watching them go to sleep forever. I spoke in depth with my vets and there is no genetic factor to worry about with Buzz, Nikita or the other pups. She just got dealt a bad card like a little human baby born with cancer or something. My vet said it's a fluke and just unfortunate for little Vespa. Please keep us in your thoughts today while we cope with this loss. It's extremely painful for both Megan and I. I've had this pup in my arms every single day for 6 1/2 weeks. She didn't deserve to not have a life but I can only hope she grows big and mighty at the Bridge and goes back to the little pistol she first showed us. RIP Vespa vom Gildaf. We will miss you and have SO much love for you.
